This document is to provide further detail about the Almac pantheon and history.  They're really the ones who got this whole thing started.

Gods:  As anyone who read previous entries know, there are 10 gods in the Almac pantheon.  However, what wasn't mentioned was that most of them have only been gods for 700 years.  Why?  Because someone gave up their post.

Deification: A process by which an ordinary mortal inherits the power of whatever god held it last.  Understand that the power never went away, and that it inhabits a mortal so there is a more definitive presence of whatever that power is.

Gods and Dying:  Gods cannot be killed, nor can they die regularly.  The only way for a god to stop being a god is to give up their powers, a conscious choice that is rather difficult to make.  The former god then gets hit with whatever period of time they missed, and promptly age to death.  The power is then available for someone else to take.

Before the arrival of the Almac Gods:  there was another period of Almac gods, hundreds of years ago, who gave up their powers.  Because of the nature of Almac, the remnants of the civilization were lost to time, and the powers were locked up in ten pyramids, whose position mirrors the Almac calendar.  In reality, only 8 out of the 10 gave up, but the other two were not interested in maintaining a civilization.  The people of this bygone era are a complete mystery, and given some of the peculiar architecture that has since been found, they weren't human.  Now, however, there are a new era of gods, and a new Almac civilization!

List of Gods:  A short description of each.  I plan on doing full articles of each, along with a complementary picture.  You may get an idea of personality from the history, however.  Another note: These gods get heavily involved with the Almac civilization.

Alzcarax: Almac Goddess of Fire and Hunger.  She's a dragon, and very unpleasant.

Doruxuacobo: Almac God of Earth and Construction.  He's human, but has a flair for scorpions.

Skirutl: Almac Goddess of Wind.  Very nice person, but bad side is very scary.

Auktolb-si: Almac God of Water.  Perhaps the single nicest god in the whole pantheon.

Maxuacatl: Almac God of nimals and the Natural Order.  A jaguar, and one of the two gods who did not give up their powers.

Zifeya: Almac Goddess of the Moon, Dreams, and Insanity.  Not violent, but definitely not sane.

Xotachil: Almac God of Darkness and Crime. Real name is Tarves Notka Willers, he may not originally be from Almac.

Yvano: Almac Goddess of Plants and Natural Growth. A tree, and the other deity who did not give up their powers.

Kintolka: Almac God of Metal and Combat.  Honorable sort of guy, which is a bit odd when you consider he's associated with centipedes.

Tchnotlifon: Almac God of Cities and Law.  A stickler for rules, and he's the weakest of the deities presented here.

Now that we've got them out of the way, let's talk history.  *groan from audience*

History:  The current era of Almac civilization has been going of for about 700 years.  In that time, there have been several attempted holy wars from the North on Almac.  It's good that they didn't succeed, because Almac civilization is composed of city-states.  Now for a timeline, because it's convenient.

-20 years: 720 years ago.  Ruins of Godhome, capital of Almac, found.

-5 years: Alzcarax the dragon comes to the ruins on the insistence of her brother.  She inherits the powers of fire, and starts the renewal process.  For the next five years, the seven other powers are inherited by humans who are drawn to the ruins by fate.  The two gods who did not give up their powers return.

Year 0: The Almac civilization is officially back in existence.  Their record of years start at this point.  Various cities appear and grow for the next two hundred years.  Almac influence also grows, and deeply concern the Church of Yon from the north.

Year 183: First Northern Crusade to Almac is a tremendous flop when they hit the border of Almac.  Turns out that because Alzcarax was the first god in the new era, she believes the entire Almac country is hers, and takes rudely to invading armies.  Entire army is either eaten or burned.  Church of Yon scared off for the next hundred years.

Year 295: Second Northern Crusade meets disaster when Alzcarax, Kintolka, and Doruxuacobo protect the border.  Very few survivors recommend not trying another crusade.

Year 401: Third Northern Crusade comes better prepared with angels, powerful magicians, and priests who can call pillars of holy fire from the sky.  Almac defended by Alzcarax, Kintolka, Dorukuacobo, and Skirutl, while other gods provide back-up.  The only real effect, other than the loss of powerful magicians, priests, and angelic allies, is that Alzcarax discovers she really likes the taste of angel flesh.  Her eating binge causes an actual war between the Almac Pantheon and the Great God Yon.

Year 402-450: Yoni-Almac God War.  After nearly fifty years of fighting on the divine planes, a treaty is created by Tchnotlifon, Auktolb-si, and the Archangels of Yon.  This treaty created a new mountain range that separates the north continent and south continent.  It's primary statement is that the Almac Pantheon cannot interfere in the North, and Yon cannot interfere in the South.  This treaty has yet to be broken in a big way, but it is suspected that Xotachil has been ignoring the treaty because he wants to.

Year 473:  The island of Division becomes the premier, and only, trading port and neutral grounds between Almac and the Northern Continent.

Up to: Year 703: Times of peace, not much going on in Almac.

So, that's the basic background of the Almac Civilization.  This was easy because there really is only Almac here, and I have a good idea on what happened.  It's going to be harder for the other histories.  There's the Lost Lands, the Yoni Protectorate, and more than a dozen small countries that need attending to.
More pantheon than civilization, really, but the gods are a lot more notable than the rulers or individual cities, even.
